"Ulaanbaatar Oasis" – A Community-Driven Green Space

The “Ulaanbaatar Oasis” project is a collaborative initiative implemented by the Gonchigsumlaa Foundation, H.O.W Architectecture and the Global Shapers Community. Project aims to transform public spaces, particularly community wells in Ger districts, into sustainable pocket parks that enhance accessibility and improve urban living conditions.

Currently, Ulaanbaatar’s green space per capita is only 5.1 square meters, which is half the minimum standard set by the World Health Organization (WHO). To address this, we are reimagining community well areas as vibrant, eco-friendly gathering places — not just for collecting water but for fostering a safe, healthy, and connected community.

Our First "Ulaanbaatar Oasis"

The very first “Ulaanbaatar Oasis” was established at Well No. 431 in Bayanzurkh District’s 31st khoroo. This initiative has created a playground for children, a relaxation space for elders, and a small yet impactful green space — proving that urban greenery does not have to be large or expensive to be effective.
